About this place
Nigiri, or sushi with soba on the side? At Okei Sushi, you can centre your meal on sushi or add a bowl of soba. Nigiri comes in the Matsu and Take sets, and the menu also includes chirashi, jo-chirashi and tekka-ju. One diner found the Matsu set of 8 pieces just the right size, and praised the tender conger eel and flavourful tuna. The range makes it possible to enjoy a modest serving of nigiri or choose a more varied dish.
Diners have described the sushi toppings as carefully prepared and the rice portions as small. Another visitor noted that the tuna in the tekka-don was thickly cut, and that the vinegared rice had a pronounced acidity that suited their taste. Tekka-ju puts tuna centre stage, while chirashi is an option for a mix of seafood; you can choose according to what you feel like eating.
There is soba to consider, too. The menu includes cold soba, tempura with prawns and vegetables, and yuzu duck soba. One diner remembered the texture of the soba, while another enjoyed tempura soba alongside sushi. Adding soba is an option if nigiri alone seems a little light or you would like something beyond sushi.
For a small bite before or alongside your meal, options include nozawana pickled greens, eggplant simmered in a light broth and kamasuage shirasu (boiled whitebait). Sake and beer are also listed, giving you choices from lunch through dinner.
